Jane Lea

Parent, former special education teacher, and non-profit leader

Jane Lea holds a Master's Degree in Special Education and a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology. She spent 16 years as a special education teacher and school administrator, working with interdisciplinary teams of parents, educators, advocates and specialists to understand students’ unique needs and design individualized education plans with measurable results. Throughout her career, she followed a holistic approach, focusing on each student’s academic, physical and social-emotional development.

In 2010, Jane Lea translated her analytical and communication skills into a new career as a human factors engineer, focusing on safety in medical devices. She owns her own consulting business, working with her clients’ teams to understand research insights, prioritize needs, and build consensus to achieve safe and effective outcomes.

​Jane Lea has been a dedicated school volunteer, supporting sports teams, Grad Nite and student-centered activities. She currently serves as Board Vice President of the Canyon Crest Academy Foundation. Jane Lea and her family are passionate about protecting our planet and are advocates for preserving native habitats. She volunteers for the San Dieguito River Valley Conservancy as co-administrator of its popular Exploring our Sense of Place (ESP) Program.

Jane Lea feels a strong personal connection to the San Dieguito Union High School District, dating back to 2008 when she moved to Del Mar with her husband, Jim, and daughter, Emma.
